Pottery and Sculpture Classes Begin Today at Old Town Artisan Studio

(La Quinta, CA) A unique new sculpture and pottery studio has opened in Old Town La Quinta, with a variety of classes for beginner, intermediate and advanced students starting today.

"We emphasize the medium of clay as an art and also as a therapy," said Victory Grund, one of the founders of Old Town Artisan Studio. "It's very calming, even beginners will feel good about what they can do here."

Grund said she discovered her passion for sculpting after taking some classes from Kay Henkel, one of four instructors now teaching at Old Town Artisan Studio. After finding the perfect space for a studio at Old Town La Quinta, Grund worked to turn her passion into a non-profit that she hopes will one day even award scholarships.

"Working with clay is also a great activity for those with physical limitations, such as knee and hip problems," added Grund. "The is an ideal alternative for someone whose had to give up their golf or tennis game.

Old Town Artisan Studio features a kiln, five potter's wheels and a number of glazes to choose from. Instructors include Henkel, Sergio Naduville, Gwen Hughes and Patrick Keenan -- all of whom display art that is for sale at the studio, as well. True conversation pieces such as life-sized sculptures and eclectic pottery can be found at Old Town Artisan Studio -- and watch for "Tilly," the life-sized sculpture that's "peaking in" the window of the Studio!

Interested students can go to the website, www.oldtownartisanstudio.org to learn more about classes and the instructors. The average class is $35-$45 per class, which are available individually or in a series. After some instruction, artists are able to join the Studio as an affiliate for $50 per year -- allowing them to rent studio space for $6/hour in two hour increments.

"This studio fits perfectly into the tapestry of Old Town," said Leslie Locken, property manager of Old Town La Quinta. "We're so pleased they decided to locate here. Art is a big part of our culture, and Old Town Artisan Studio really provides a forum for anyone looking to experience and grow their love for sculpture and pottery."
